Treatment Information
The purpose of holistic therapies is to treat the whole person. Often feelings and emotions are kept inside the body and in many circumstances only the physical symptoms are dealt with. Massage can help us reconnect to these parts which have been overlooked, thus restoring the body, mind and spirit back to balance.
In India, massage has always played a significant role
in Ayurveda Medicine. Ayurveda comes from the Sanskrit words
Ayur meaning Life and Veda meaning knowledge. The underlying
philosophy of Ayurveda is the belief that
health
results from harmony with one's self. For a person to be healthy there must be harmony between their purpose for being, their thoughts, their feelings and their physical actions. Following this belief one of the keys to good health is having a body that circulates nutrients properly and expels toxins efficiently.
Indian Head Massage as practised in the West is based on
Swedish massage techniques and is highly effective for treating
stress, as it works on the areas most affected - the
back, neck, shoulders, head and arms. Although the treatment
is carried out on the upper body the effects are felt throughout
the whole body and mind.
Traditional Indian Ayurvedic Head Massage is often used
by Indian women to keep the hair lustrous and in good condition.
When applied to the hair oil is absorbed into the roots of
the hair. When applied regularly to the scalp, this massage
will revitalise the circulation at the hair roots and the
oil will bring nourishment to the living growing hair, soften
the scalp, remove dryness which is responsible for brittle
hair, some scalp disorders, promote hair growth, and slow
down hair loss.
Whilst oiling the hair the marma points (vital points) are
massaged. This stimulates the circulatory and nervous system
capillaries, increases the flow of cerebral spinal fluid,
improves the colon, intestines, balances wind and lowers
blood pressure. It also improves alertness, memory and balances
the pituitary, pineal glands, the eyes, the lungs and heart.
