SPECIAL

Every posture milestone is celebrated, and I found the warmth and enthusiasm of all of the fellow pupils so inspiring. No one judges you here, and you meet people of all ages from all walks of life. I have made some very special friends”. Claire.

PASSION

Fran and Martin’s passion and love for yoga is tangible and threaded through everything Yoga Dharma does. From the laughter, camaraderie, and the no-fuss relaxed vibe to the outstanding level of teaching, knowledge and experience, you feel that you’ve arrived somewhere really rather special.” Nat.

REAL YOGA

Unfortunately, I don’t live near yoga dharma, but I do visit as much as possible when I’m able. They teach authentic, raw, real yoga. It’s undeniably welcoming. I’ve practised on and of most my life and this feels like home (yoga wise!)”. Gemma.

COMMUNITY

Fran was so helpful and caring, making sure I looked after my neck and encouraging me. As the years have gone on Dharma has become more important to me. I love the community and the way that we all look out for each other. I can’t imagine ever stopping coming here.” Vic.

WORDS CANT EXPRESS

“I first came to Yoga Dharma in the summer of 2013. It was a challenging time in my life at 53 I was coping with the menopause, had recently completed treatment for early stage breast cancer, and on top of that dealing with empty nest syndrome as both my sons had left home in quick succession.

I knew I needed to get fitter and had been thinking of trying Yoga. My motivation initially was vanity, to tone up, improve my posture and try to delay the inevitable ageing process. Little did I know it at the time but walking through the door at Yoga Dharma was about to change my life. I started with the beginners classes and under the brilliant instruction of Martin and Fran my journey began.

Every posture milestone is celebrated, and I found the warmth and enthusiasm of all of the fellow pupils so inspiring. No one judges you here, and you meet people of all ages from all walks of life. I have made some very special friends.

I try to come to 2 or 3 classes a week. I still work full time and my life is very busy so the fact that there are classes during the day and evening I can normally find one to suit my schedule.

As I mentioned earlier I started yoga to get fitter however it has given me so much more, yes I am stronger, my posture has improved but I have also learnt self acceptance, tolerance, how to breathe, empty my mind, cope with stress and to live in moment.

There are no words that can fully express my gratitude to Martin and Fran and all the lovely yogi’s at Yoga Dharma. So if you are reading this and thinking of coming to Yoga Dharma what are you waiting for? All you need to bring is your body, mind and a mat.

BETTER SENS OF WORTH

“For yoga to be balanced it needs a balance. Yoga Dharma, in Southchurch Road, offers that balance. One year ago, I thought yoga was one class a week (if I could make it), with a few stretches and a vague feeling of being relaxed. Postures would be left uncorrected and the practice, such as it was, never really left the mat.

Yoga Dharma changed that all. First there was the breadth of classes and then the depth of those classes; as the importance of the practice of Yoga, of the limbs of ashtanga are gently introduced.

Postures are worked towards with corrections but also humour; a sense of community prevails. Above all is the self-learning that grows from a base of Yoga practice. A better sense of worth, of patience, and a sense of inner joy.’”

PRACTICE I LOVE

I started coming to Yoga Dharma nearly 9 years ago. I’d never thought of yoga as something I’d want to do. I’d been seeing an osteopath because of a neck problem, and he suggested I go to pilates, but I couldn’t find a class so came along to Dharma with a friend and loved it from the first class.

Fran was so helpful and caring, making sure I looked after my neck and encouraging me. As the years have gone on Dharma has become more important to me. More health problems have arisen over the years (well, I am 9 years older!), but Fran continues to help and encourage me.

I also love the community there, and the way that we all look out for each other. I can’t imagine ever stopping coming here – I’ll probably be wheeled here from my nursing home in years to come!

was recommended by a friend to Yoga Dharma over a year ago. I initially wanted to improve flexibility and strength, as I play competitive sport. I wasn’t bargaining on everything else that came along with being a member of such a great place.

Firstly, the expert knowledge of Fran and Martin is vast and authentic.

Secondly, there is a real sense of community at Yoga Dharma; the members are supportive of each other and have a great benefit in both Martin and Fran being so accessible. I have had a couple of one-to-one sessions and have found them to be healing and beneficial.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, I have found a practise which I love and made some amazing friends.

A massive thank you to Yoga Dharma and its wonderful team for truly bringing enhancement to my life.” Vicky

CANT RECOMMEND ENOUGH

“Fran and Martin’s passion and love for yoga is tangible and threaded through everything Yoga Dharma does. From the laughter, camaraderie, and the no-fuss relaxed vibe to the outstanding level of teaching, knowledge and experience, you feel that you’ve arrived somewhere really rather special. The food in the cafe is definitely worth a mention too!

After every visit, I always feel grounded and recharged and have seen my practice, strength and fitness improve since attending the classes and workshops. Regardless of where are at in your practice, whether you are an absolute beginner or a seasoned yogi, I cannot recommend Yoga Dharma enough.”
