claireI first came to Yoga Dharma in the summer of 2013. It was a challenging time in my life at 53 I was coping with the menopause, had recently completed treatment for early stage breast cancer, and on top of that dealing with empty nest syndrome as both my sons had left home in quick succession.

I knew I needed to get fitter and had been thinking of trying Yoga. My motivation initially was vanity, to tone up, improve my posture and try to delay the inevitable ageing process. Little did I know it at the time but walking through the door at Yoga Dharma was about to change my life. I started with the beginners classes and under the brilliant instruction of Martin and Fran my journey began.

Every posture milestone is celebrated and I found the warmth and enthusiasm of all of the fellow pupils so inspiring. No one judges you here, and you meet people of all ages from all walks of life. I have made some very special friends.

I try to come to 2 or 3 classes a week. I still work full time and my life is very busy so the fact that there are classes during the day and evening I can normally find one to suit my schedule.

As I mentioned earlier I started yoga to get fitter however it has given me so much more, yes I am stronger, my posture has improved but I have also learnt self acceptance, tolerance, how to breathe, empty my mind, cope with stress and to live in moment.

There are no words that can fully express my gratitude to Martin and Fran and all the lovely yogi’s at Yoga Dharma. So if you are reading this and thinking of coming to Yoga Dharma what are you waiting for? All you need to bring is your body, mind and a mat.
