STANDING SEQUENCE
The Ashtanga vinyasa standing sequence is an incredibly sophisticated arrangement of asanas that builds strength, stamina and flexibility which forms the backbone for all the postures that follow. If they are aligned correctly, they prepare the hips for seated postures, arm balances, inversions and back bending.
ATTENTION TO DETAIL
This workshop breaks down the postures and with careful attention rebuilds them while adapting them to individual students. Close attention is paid to the position of feet, legs, torso, shoulders and head. Whether it’s a forward bend, backbend, lateral stretch or a balance, correctly aligned each posture has the same basic foundations.
SUBTLE ANATOMY
The role of the subtle body in relation to the Standing sequence is addressed through Pranayama, Drishti and Bandha. The breath drives the practice forward (Pranayama), Dristhi (gaze) is holding the mind steady (Pratyahara) Bandha (locks) contain and create energy, protect joints and make the practice light.
STANDING POSTURES, WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?
Through integrating alignment, breath, Bandha and Drishti the body becomes stronger, lighter and more flexible. It opens the door for a more profound asana practice that is therapeutic in nature. For existing teachers, it facilitates a deeper understanding of alignment and how to apply it individually.

This workshop is for existing teachers, student teachers and yoga practitioners at all levels. This is a CPD event
