Mysore Style is the traditional way of practising Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga and the beauty of this system is that it is suitable for all levels of practise. This system should allow an advanced practitioner, and the complete beginner to practise alongside each other.

This is not a class where the teacher leads the class, instead students arrive within the class time and begin their practise. This is where a skilled teacher can manage a mixed group from beginner to advanced, and still can offer adjustments and advise.

The new student does not need any prior experience as the teacher will start the student off, and with time the student will come to embrace this style and the benefits it must offer. Being able to practise at your own level, within a studio environment and with expert advice on hand has benefits over a led class. The student will follow the same sequence as in the Ashtanga series set out here.


Your teacher here will advise on the correct breathing method for this practise, and advise on how to implement locks and mudras. These make up an essential element of the Ashtanga vinyasa system, and reap huge benefits when integrated into the asana practise.

These classes are traditionally run early and this to has benefits over an evening practise. When first trying out an early practise the body feels stiff and unresponsive, but over time the body responds resulting in much deeper and long lasting change.

The body becomes stronger, leaner, and fitter. The mind becomes calmer and the thinking clearer. Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga, when practised with the correct breathing, mudras and bandhas, is a holistic practise which brings about transformation and evolution.

Yoga should be taught and practised in a complete way, not just the physical aspect. A practise which focuses on the physical aspect only, will feed the ego, and miss the bigger picture.
